Initiated in Mid-2004, the Access Pipeline Project, when completed, will be anchored by a bitumen blend pipeline and a diluent pipeline, 347 km and 304 km respectively, connecting the Devon and MEG oil sands projects in the Christina Lake area, to the Edmonton industrial area. Initial routing and site selection was done cooperatively between TERA and ACCESS. Since the pipeline covered a significant length of White Area, a Conservation and Reclamation report was required which encompassed soil, weed and wildlife surveys, QEAS, vegetation and historical resources impact assessments as well as an Environmental Protection Plan covering various topics including contingency plans and post-construction reclamation. The remainder of the route required Environmental Field Reports, a Caribou Protection Plan and a Historic Resources Overview. Construction began at various points along the route in 2005 and 2006 and continues to the present with TERA being actively involved in providing environmental support. With over 2,000 photographs, several thousand pages of final documentation, and hundreds of maps - 34 gigabytes of aggregate data - along with the involvement of dozens of staff at TERA as well as many sub-consultants, the ACCESS Pipeline Project is an example of just one of our larger scale projects. |
