TERA Sponsors A Local Osprey Nest - Spring 2010

During the winter of 2009, a wind storm knocked down a light pole at the Broadfield Park soccer field in Calgary (along Memorial Drive near 19th Street N.W). The pole landed on two vehicles however no one was hurt. The poles, which hold floodlights for night-time soccer games, were found to be rotten at their base and, as a result, needed to be removed. One of the poles had been home to a pair of ospreys. Ospreys return to the same nest each spring and continually build onto their nest so it grows larger every year. New poles at Broadfield Park were not scheduled to be installed until summer 2010 however to ensure the ospreys had a nest to return to in the spring, TERA agreed to provide funding for the project. The pole was installed in cooperation with the City of Calgary and Enmax. TERA's staff members participated in building the nest platform, using materials saved from the old nest, and were onsite to watch the new pole being installed on April 9, 2010. The new osprey pole is located closer to the Bow River in a green space along the bike path and will provide Calgarians with great educational viewing opportunities. TERA is proud to support local environmental initiatives and our team is very excited to follow the activities at the osprey nest.

Sustainable Development Initiatives

TERA Environmental Consultants has chosen to bullfrogpower its Calgary head office and Medicine Hat office with 100% green electricity. Bullfrog PowerTM (Bullfrog) is a leading Canadian green power provider. Bullfrog injects the same amount of power back into the Alberta electricity grid that TERA Environmental Consultants uses for its offices. Bullfrog sources power in Alberta exclusively from emissions-free sources, such as wind power generators, that meet or exceed the federal government’s Environmental ChoiceM Program EcoLogoM standard for renewable electricity.

“At TERA, we firmly believe in sustainability and take great pride in our environmental initiatives. Using green electricity from Bullfrog Power furthers our efforts and allows us to set an example within industry and the general public about taking organizational responsibility for action on reducing carbon emissions.”
