Environmental Protection Plans and Alignment Sheets

TERA's Environmental Protection Plans (EPPs) and alignment sheets have become the industry standard. Our EPPs are objectives-based and are necessary to achieve the overall objectives of reducing environmental effects and meeting provincial agency requirements, site-specific environmental and socio-economic mitigative measures.

Our EPPs include environmental contingency plans, measures and strategies to address conditions which may arise during construction, including:

  • Flood and excessive flow
  • Fire
  • Soil erosion
  • Directional drilling procedures
  • Accidents and malfunctions
  • Fish species or fish habitat of concern discovery
  • Wildlife encounter
  • Traditional land use site discovery
  • Wet soils
  • Permafrost
  • Siltation of watercourses
  • Drilling mud release
  • Spills
  • Wildlife species of concern discovery
  • Heritage resource discovery
  • Extreme weather
  • Rare plant discovery

All environmental mitigation procedures are noted on Environmental Alignment Sheets at scales ranging from 1:5,000 to 1:20,000.

Management plans, which address issues that apply to all phases of construction, are also incorporated into our EPPs. These plans include:

  • Water quality monitoring
  • Traffic control
  • Chemical management
  • Hydrovac cutting handling
  • Access control
  • Environmental training and compliance
  • Hazardous material management
