Vegetation

TERA's vegetation specialists have conducted vegetation surveys on hundreds of provincially and federally regulated projects throughout western Canada. Our team works independently and with multidisciplinary teams, contributing data and expertise to the wetlands, reclamation planning and aquatics disciplines. In addition, our specialists provide technical expertise to develop appropriate mitigation or reclamation strategies and assess the potential impacts of projects on all aspects of vegetation resources.

TERA has a proven track record of locating, assessing and developing practical and effective mitigation for rare plant species. We have recorded over 800 distinct rare plant populations and rare ecological communities in the last three years. TERA is a major contributor to the Alberta Conservation Information Management System and other provincial Conservation Data Centres. Vegetation services provided include:

  • Surveys for rare vascular plants, nonvascular plants and ecological communities
  • Species-specific surveys, including targeted surveys for vegetation species at risk
  • Rare plant and rare ecological community mitigation planning
  • Vegetation classification and air photo interpretation
  • Predictive and interpretation based vegetation community mapping (Ecosite Mapping, Ecological Land Classification)
  • Preconstruction surveys for weeds and invasive species
  • Vegetation inventories and vegetation research projects
  • Post-construction monitoring of rare plant mitigation
